BHA vs AHA, what are they & why should we care? #sparknotes
for u below. ✍🏼
+ they’re acids that target diff needs & are often combined in skincare products to address all concerns simultaneously.
+ they both target fine lines, hydrate & improve uneven skin/texture.
+ consider alternating your AHA/BHA products
BETA-HYDROXY ACIDS #BHA
+ salicylic acid is the most common BHA
+ ideal to fight acne & for oily skin, hence why salicylic acid is found in so many acne-treating products
+ generally preferred for normal to oily skin/acne-prone skin
ALPHA-HYDROXY ACIDS #AHA
+ derived from sugar cane/plant sources 🌱
+ generally preferred for normal to dry skin
+ glycolic acid is the most widely used AHA
+ benefits outer & deep layer of skin, think re-surfacing! + AHA’s are exfoliative, resurfacing & help stimulate collage production (lots of products that treat fine lines contain AHA’s)
ok, that was a lot, but hopefully this explained these hella popular terms a bit. i never really cared/looked into what was inside my skincare products until finding @kgmtl & learning so much from her! lmk if this was helpful 💖
