Since something like 70-80 percent of our immune system resides in our GI tracts, what we do and do not eat can make or break us, literally. Hello, leaky gut (a.k.a. intestinal permeability). Chronic stress, environmental exposures and eating food from packages play a big role in this. 🍏

I love @traderjoes because they feed my love for fast-dinner ingredients to make these turkey cutlets & blistered spicy mustard snap peas and cabbage mix.
-1 lb turkey breast cutlets
-1 tiny lime -1 pkg snap peas
-1 pkg cabbage & carrot slaw mix
-1-2 tsp spicy brown mustard -olive oil and green onions and garlic salt 
Need: two skillets on medium heat. 🍽Skillet #1: olive oil + turkey + garlic salt. Brown; flip.  Top with lime juice. 🍽Skillet #2: olive oil + veggies. Add mustard once veggies are tender. 
Combine skillets for presentation! Top with green onions.

Now, who didn’t grow up on casserole? When I visit my parents in Wisconsin, they’re STILL eating casserole! 
And after being inspired by @autoimmunepaleo ‘s tuna casserole, I wanted to re-make my own childhood fave: Tater Tot Casserole (yep- that was the legit name 🤦‍♀️).

The real version was a combo of ground beef, condensed soup, butter, cheese, green beans and tater tots. .
The cleaned up version has grass-fed beef, sautéed Napa cabbage, green beans, garlic and a creamy base made from cauliflower and onions. I even added a small 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese for that really rich taste (but you can omit depending on your lifestyle) This is one casserole that will fill you up with good fats and fiber.

Of course I had to keep the tater tots 😆 but feel free to just top with cheese or sliced sweet potatoes.

ANZAC BISCUITS 🍪 💚🍪💚🍪 Today for ANZAC Day, we would love to share a plant-based, dairy-free version of this popular recipe: it’s adapted to be gluten free and oil free as well. * If nuts are an issue, they can be subbed out also. 
DRY INGREDIENTS 
1 and 1/2 cups gluten-free rolled oats (or rice flakes) 
1/2 cup flour (coconut is probably best, chick pea or others can be used too) 
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
3/4 cups desiccated coconut
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
A pinch of Himalayan or Celtic sea salt
1/2 cup roughly chopped macadamias (leave out if there are nut allergies or use sunflower or pumpkin seeds for “crunch”!) .

WET INGREDIENTS 
1/4 cup of nut butter (sub with vegan margarine or cocoa butter if allergic to nuts) 
1/4 cup maple syrup or rice malt syrup 
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon boiling water

METHOD 
Preheat oven to 150ºC 
Line two oven trays with baking paper
Place first 3 wet ingredients - the butter, syrup and vanilla - in a small saucepan over low heat, stir the mixture until it starts to bubble
Remove saucepan from heat, add a pinch of sea salt and set this aside 
In a small bowl, mix the half bicarbonate of soda with the boiling water then add this to the nut butter mixture, stir through (until it appears foamy)
Combine remaining dry ingredients in a separate bowl. 
Pour entire melted nut butter mix into the dry mix and combine well.

Roll a teaspoon of the mix into a ball, place on tray, then press flat. 
Repeat this with remaining mixture (allow room for them spreading out)
When done, place trays in the centre of your oven
Bake the biscuits for approximately 15 minutes (or until golden brown)

After they’re done, remove from oven, place on a rack to cool (and so they crisp up further) ........... then ENJOY! .

First things first: YES your liver does detox for you. It is one bad ass organ that does a little magic trick called biotransformation: aka packaging up toxins so we can eliminate them via 💩, sweat and pee. #blessed⁣⁣

However the important thing here is that this process is nutrient-dependent! Namely b-vitamins, choline, vitamin C, magnesium and amino acids, among others. ⁣🤓⁣

If we are getting plenty of these nutrients then detox can proceed as planned. ⁣👍⁣

If we don’t get these nutrients (like when we are *cough* on a juice cleanse) the pathways don’t run as designed and we can actually end up doing more harm than good. ⁣🤦‍♀️⁣

So what do you do? If you are thinking your liver needs some TLC (it prob does) here are some things you can start doing: ⁣⁣

✔️eat enough food, especially protein ⁣⁣
✔️focus on choline (egg yolks FTW)⁣⁣
✔️add in cruciferous veggies like broccoli, cabbage, kale, b sprouts, cauli ⁣⁣
✔️drink enough water and add fresh lemon to it first thing in am ⁣⁣
✔️move, sweat and poop daily ⁣⁣
✔️consider supplementing magnesium (oral or topical) ⁣⁣
✔️evaluate and cut down on your own toxic burden ⁣⁣
✔️consider targeted liver-supporting supplements (like milk thistle, berberine, DIM, n-acetyl cysteine, alpha lipoid acid)* ⁣

Sometimes....sometimes a good, all-body massage is all I need to workout the stiffness...stress...toxins...and soreness. Just me & zen.

Learning not to feel bad about doing something good for myself...like getting a massage. Not feeling bad for taking the time to get myself back up to par....not feeling bad for spending the money. Many moms like me do.

But you know what I say?? I say...fuck it...I need this right now....60 mins of working it out & calm zen time for my mind.

Couple things. 
Spring! Spring is the season connected to the liver in TCM. Naturally, I think we start to crave foods and drinks that stimulate and support our digestive systems and livers. Turmeric is a wonderful food that supports the liver and helps aid in detoxification. Turmeric is best utilized as a food as opposed to pills. It’s much harder for our bodies to absorb and really benefit from supplements of Turmeric. So whenever you have the option go with a food based version do it! Like our Turmeric Tonic! And make sure there is black pepper or ginger with the Turmeric. These two herbs help our bodies access all the turmeric goodness.

Also, how many of you out there use our products? Tell us what you’ve enjoyed or have not enjoyed about our brand and anything you’d like to see is offer in the coming season.

A second way that sugar affects the body is by throwing off #guthealth because it interrupts the microbiome of the digestive tract. Sugar is the food of choice for the GI’s “bad bacteria” (not a term I prefer to use, as the “bad bacteria” are still necessary; there just needs to be a proper balance of them and too many is what causes the problem, thus referring to them as “bad”). And when the bad bacteria are fed, various issues can arise (hello, IBS, poor absorption of minerals, vitamins, etc.).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So skip adding sugar to your coffee. Drink it black. 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔Holy shitskies Batman, these crispy yet awesome BURGER PATTIES are damn good! Recipe adapted from: @lovingitvegan . Mushroom burger bun idea by: @recipesforglow ! .

•1 onion, chopped .
•2 garlic cloves, minced .
•2 cans of black beans, drained
•1 tsp smoked paprika .
•1 tsp coriander powder
•1 tsp cumin (thought I wouldn’t like this but I do, can’t taste it much)
•1 tsp onion powder
•1 tsp garlic powder
•2 tbs tomato paste
•2 pinches salt
•1 c gluten-free all purpose flour (I used the banana bread flour In my ebook)

-Sauté the onions and garlic in some Pacific Organic Mushroom Broth. Add it to the food processor when done. Add all the other ingredients except the flour. Blitz away until it’s smooth. Pour the mixture into a bowl, add the flour. Mix until combined. For into patties on a a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and bake at 450 until the burger looks almost done and when flipped it’s crispy on one side (about 20 minutes). Cook on the other side until crispy (About 10 minutes)! .

I like the crispiness of these patties and the flavor! I think the tomato paste does it! I used mushroom caps for buns but you can use anything you like (lettuce, avocado, sweet potato slices, pineapple, eggplant rounds, burger bowl or wait for Chrissy to figure out a burger bun recipe LOL)! .

It’s called the Sunshine Vitamin because our skin contains a certain type of cholesterol, that when stimulated by UVB rays from the sun, forms vitamin D3. It then goes through additional processes in the body, like conversions in the liver and kidneys, to form various derivatives that benefit that body. ⠀

This process can be inhibited in many ways: time of day, location, cloud cover, season, age, and skin color can all influence your vitamin D production. ⠀

So how can we get more of it? ⠀

Well you know I always turn to food first. While the sun is still the best source, you can get some vitamin D from liver, cod, herring, and sardines. Mushrooms and eggs also contain vitamin D. ⠀

I juice cucumbers, lemon, and ginger daily and add my favorite @pineswheatgrass barley grass powder. Barley grass was super popular with the Greeks and Romans and I totally understand why!! It cleanses and detoxifies the body, protects from radiation and cellular damage, regenerates damaged cells and tissues, and strengthens the immune system. It contains vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin K.  It contains electrolytes such as magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and essential minerals such as zinc, iron, and calcium. I juice cucumbers, lemon, and ginger daily and add my favorite @pineswheatgrass barley grass powder. Barley grass was super popular with the Greeks and Romans and I totally understand why!! It cleanses and detoxifies the body, protects from radiation and cellular damage, regenerates damaged cells and tissues, and strengthens the immune system. Traditional Anzac biscuits are often laddened with butter, refined sugars that come from lashings of golden syrup and brown sugar and processed white flour.  I’m happy to announce that these biscuits are #dairyfree #glutenfree, #eggfree, #vegan and naturally sweetened ❤️

1/2 cup gluten free whole rolled oats 
1/2 cup shredded coconut 
1/4 cup raw almonds 
2 tbsp 100% pure maple syrup 
1 tbsp melted unrefined coconut oil 
1 tbsp hot water 
1 tsp baking powder 
1/4 tsp cinnamon powder 
Pinch Himalayan salt

Preheat oven to 180 degrees and line a tray with baking paper. Place the first 3 ingredients into a food processor and just pulse so not to completely break the oats or nuts. The mixture is processed enough when the almonds are roughly chopped. Turn out into a bowl and stir in the remainder of ingredients. Take a spoonful of mixture and roll into a ball. Place balls on baking tray and flatten with the back of a spoon. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden on the edges. Leave to cool then enjoy 😊

Recipe of the week is Homemade Chicken Broth! 
The reason some people swear by chicken soup for healing a cold or flu is that chicken broth inhibits neutrophil migration and therefore helps lessen the side effects of colds, flus and upper respiratory infections. 
It is also very healing for the gut it helps promote fat burn and gives us plenty of gelatin which is great for joints, skin, hair and nails. It also has a high mineral and protein content. Just make sure you use a Free Range Chicken! 
Recipe: 
I free range chicken carcass
3 carrots
1 large onion
6 celery stalks
4 cloves garlic
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp mixed italian herbs (thyme, rosemary, organo etc)
2 tbsp sea salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp ginger powder
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
11 cups of water •

Put it all in a slow cooker on low for 12-14 hours. I will do this on Sunday so that I have a bach of stock for my 4 days of cleansing next week. •
Once finished strain the liquid and use within 3 days. I put half in the freezer. Next week I'll put up the recipe for my pumpkin soup I make using this broth!

Most believe that fruit is too high in sugar. The reality is, the sugar in the picture on the left is not the same as the sugar in the pictures on the right. Processed vs pure glucose. 🙅🏻‍♀️🍭🍫🍦

Fruit is made up of SO much. Pulp, fiber, water, vitamins, minerals, glucose, etc. We NEED these healthy carbohydrates (yes fruit is a carb) and the essential brain and liver fueling glucose that’s bonded to vital phytochemicals within the fruit.

Also, fruit actually DOES NOT cause candida. “Candida” is a whole other misunderstood topic on its own. Fruit digests so easily that it’s sugar leaves your stomach within minutes after you’ve eaten it! It doesn’t even reach your intestinal tract which means it doesn’t breed issues like candida.

If you have been avoiding fruit in fear, I am here to tell you that that’s not necessary and it’s truly not helping your body any! 🍎🍉🍇🍌🍒🥝🥥🍓🍍🥭🍊🍋🍈

Developing numerous diseases, too many doctor visits to count, SO much of my parents hard earned money wasted on false hope. The sugar on the right is healing me and bringing my body back to LIFE. 🌞🌻✨ I’ve spent many years not feeling good and in a sense, feel like I’ve missed out on some of my life. Time that I will never get back. But I know that with the help of the GOOD sugar from fruit, I will get so many more years added back on. ⏳ It’s worth it. Changing what you eat is worth living longer. What are we all so afraid of? 🔥

Porch lunches are the best lunches🌞🥗// Roasted tomatoes, asparagus, amaranth, cannellini beans + goat cheese on top of mixed greens with a squeeze of lemon 🍅🥬🍋
This bowl is filled to the brim with different sources of fiber for a healthy gut, fullness and a perfect balance of textures👌🏼
It was also really easy to make! I quartered the tomatoes, trimmed the asparagus and roasted both on 375 with salt, pepper + avocado oil for about a half hour. For the amaranth (similar flavor and texture to quinoa and millet), bring 3 cups of water to a boil and add in 1 cup of amaranth. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes. Before removing from heat, stir in 1 can cannellini beans (drained and rinsed). I enjoyed this salad cold, but you could also leave everything warm! Also, if you’re into meat this would be bomb with steak, just sayin’💯

As parents, all we want is what's best for our children.  At the end of the day, the only things that truly matter most are their health and happiness.  We can have everything we've ever dreamed of in life, but without these two things, we virtually have nothing. .
Taking our daughter into the ER last night triggered some past memories for me of when she got sick as a newborn, and memories of when my health started rapidly declining.  Since the day she was born I have committed my life to doing anything and everything I possibly can to ensure that our family has these two key fundamentals- health and happiness. .
The lifestyle I have chose for my children may not be "normal" to alot of people, but the modern day "normal" is just not cutting it for ANYONE.  We need to create a new normal.  The funny thing is, is it's not really new.  It's old.... we've just lost touch with it over the years.  We live in a world today where children (and adults) are sicker than they've ever been.  This is NOT normal and it is NOT ok.  It also does NOT have to be this way. .
After I got sick and started researching and finding out the affects that our food, environment, stress, lack of sleep, products, cleaners, and other things have on our health, my eyes quickly opened up and I knew changes had to be made. .
Yesterday when we were told our daughter had an ear infection I almost had this feeling of failure inside me.  I thought to myself... "After all that I have done over the last 3 and a half years to keep my family as healthy as possible, has it not been enough?  How could she have an infection when she's continually fueling her body with fruits and vegetables, staying away from processed foods and foods that feed viruses, using safe non toxic products, getting the rest she needs, and using natural solutions to support her bodies needs?? Even though I knew the answer (underlying strep in the body and heavy metals which take time and consistency to fully heal), it still made me feel defeated. .
I was so upset that she had to be put on antibiotics since we've been able to avoid them completely since after a setback when she was first born. (CONT'D)👇
