“Avenge me, Mrs. Beverly”
Yesterday was my official last day teaching at the refuge. I hardly had time to process that, and then went straight to Science Club.
We are currently making endangered species’ posters in Science Club, and our student helpers decided to emphasize a few extinct species as well. Knowing my love for birds, they included the Carolina Parakeet and the Passenger Pigeon. And when they put it together, they included that red speech bubble...”Avenge me, Ms. Beverly”
I hope that’s what I’ve done the last 5 years. Instilled a respect, fostered a love, and encouraged a passion for conservation. Put into perspective the impact (for good and not so much) we can have on the world. That’s the best vengeance I can get, and it’s been worth every second of my time for the last 5 years.
The YES! Program is winding down, but the mission is still the same. And no matter what I do (stay tuned for specifics in the near future!), I will always have a heart for conservation and environmental education.
It’s been an honor and a joy.
Love, Mrs. Beverly
