“If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” - Albert Einstein /
Yesterday, I stepped into bee world, and I didn’t realize that I was opening the door to a vast and fascinating universe. /
Things I know about bees:
1: That they are in danger and that colonies across Europe and the U.S. are collapsing.
2: That we can’t live without bees.
3. That each honey comb is unique and like wine, cheese, olive oil and so many other products that come from the earth, its flavors reflect the condition of the land at that particular moment in time.
4. That honey has been used for hundreds of thousands of years for, nutritional, medicinal and household use. /
I am particularly interested in the history and use of honey as it pertains to the Italian kitchen. Local honey is important ingredient that has been hanging around our kitchen for many years, and I have definitely taken it for granted. /
There is so much love put into the artisan food products that we consume. Not only to I love to eat them, I love to hear the stories behind them, and I hope you do too. /
Do you use raw local honey? How and when? Do you keep bees or have any interesting information? If so please share in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you.
